About Us

The Journey

lets_get_sporty_about_us

Let's Get Sporty was founded in 2011 by Directors David Bradbury and Kevin Somerville. Our background in training and development, coach education, mentoring and leadership were brought together into a new social enterprise group. The aim is to provide an essential sport service to local communities whilst supporting young people into employment.

Let's Get Sporty launched in 2011, delivering a 9 hour a week programme at Georgetown Community Centre with 5 volunteers and one staff member. Since February, 2016, Let's Get Sporty has grown to over 30 classes per week delivered across Dumfries and Galloway.

In this time we have supported over 100 trainees into a positive destination whether it be further education or employment. In 2015, Let's Get Sporty were awarded 3rd place in the European Investment Bank Institute Social Innovation Tournament in recognition for work with young people.

Partnerships have also been formed with Dumfries and Galloway Council; NHS and Loreburn Housing Association to name a few, which has helped support not only the delivery of sport but also to support young people into employment.

Let's Get Sporty also deliver over 12 weeks of holiday camps per year and over 70 birthday parties per year. Our after school programme consists of over 40 classes delivered across Dumfries and Galloway.

Our Family Fun Day event 2015 at the Crichton Campus was a huge success and was attended by over 1500 families. Attractions included on stage entertainment; inflatable services; segways; pony rides; nine station multi sport zone; TOTS play area; Football Golf Course; Music and more.

The Mission

What do we do?

“Let’s Get Sporty is a not for profit social enterprise based in Dumfries & Galloway. We provide young people with training, mentoring and employment opportunities through the delivery of sport & physical activity.”

Why do we do this?

In Dumfries & Galloway youth unemployment levels are high and physical activity levels are low.....this concerns us. We are focused on improving these with innovative, engaging, quality projects throughout the region.

How do we do this?

We provide young people with an individualised training programme focusing on improving their social skills, employability skills and self-confidence. They work with our staff to deliver our sport and physical activity programmes throughout the region. We pride ourselves on getting young people to develop in a professional, inspiring environment delivering quality services in their local community.

The Result

Since we were established in 2012, 96% of our trainees have progressed to a positive destination (either education or employment). In total, our trainees have delivered over 10,000 hours of sport and physical activity throughout the region.
